In the adhesive industry, self-adhesive materials are known as "pressure-sensitive adhesives" (PSA). PSA is designed to adhere to almost any surface simply by light pressure through contact. This type of special adhesive does not undergo any physical transformation or chemical reaction during the bonding process. Therefore, the rheological properties of the adhesive must be fine-tuned according to the application, requiring the combination of a carefully designed polymer structure, monomer composition, and tackifying resin additives. PSA is a soft, deformable solid, and depending on the formulation, it easily forms bridging fibers between two surfaces when peeling off. They are safe to use and easy to handle, thus increasingly replacing more traditional types of adhesives.
