Acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesives can be produced through free radical solution polymerization, emulsion polymerization, bulk polymerization, and suspension polymerization, with the first two methods being primarily used in industry for the manufacture of pressure-sensitive adhesives. A chain polymerization reaction where monomers and initiators are dissolved in an appropriate solvent is called free radical solution polymerization. The advantages of free radical solution polymerization include: low viscosity of the polymerization system, easy mixing and heat transfer, and easy temperature control, thus avoiding local overheating of the system and facilitating the reduction of the gel effect. Therefore, the mass production of solvent-based pressure-sensitive adhesives has a theoretical basis.
