Precautions for using PU adhesive in summer
PU lawn adhesive is a two-component polyurethane adhesive. The following aspects should be noted when using it :
1. Storage :
(1) Both components of the PU adhesive must be stored in a cool, dry warehouse, sealed, and kept at an optimal temperature of 5–30°C. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or moisture.
(2) Before use, place the required amount of adhesive in the glue room (or equipment) at least 24 hours in advance to stabilize the temperature at 18-25℃ .
2. Usage process:
(1) If the adhesive has been stored for an extended period, stir thoroughly before use to ensure uniformity.
(2) Before application, measure the temperature of both adhesive components. The temperature must be maintained within 18–25°C. If it falls outside this range, allow the adhesive to remain in the glue room (maintained at 23°C during operation) until the standard is met.
(3) Cooling System Check:
Ensure the equipment’s cooling system is functioning properly.
Allow sufficient cooling circulation time before starting production.
(4) Verify that the drying oven temperature meets the requirement (≥120°C) before application.
(5) Adhesive Dispensing Control:
The dispensing rate must match the backing line speed.
Avoid excessive material buildup on the coating platform. If buildup occurs:
Reduce the dispensing rate, or
Increase the line speed (adjust oven temperature if needed).
(6) Summer-Specific Precautions:
If the temperature of the accumulated material on the platform exceeds 35°C, it is easy to cause gelation, which often occurs in the hot summer. Please check the adhesive temperature near the adhesive roller every half hour in late spring, early autumn, and summer. The adhesive temperature should not exceed 35℃.
Causes of Overheating:
a) Adhesive temperature not pre-cooled to 18–25°C before use.
b) Excessive material buildup on the platform.
c) Prolonged production in high workshop temperatures.
Solutions:
Avoid continuous production in extreme heat.
Schedule production during cooler hours (e.g., nighttime) if necessary.
(7) Adjusting Adhesive Application Rate:
Increase the foaming rate.
Adjust the pressure between the coating roller and the lawn backing.
Required Tool: Handheld infrared thermometer.
Precautions for using PU adhesive in winter
PU lawn backing adhesive is a two-component polyurethane adhesive. The following points should be noted for winter use:
1. Storage :
(1) Both components of the PU adhesive must be stored in a warehouse, sealed, and kept at an optimal temperature of 5–30°C. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight or rain.
(2) In winter, place the required amount of adhesive in the glue room (or equipment) at least 48 hours in advance to stabilize the temperature at 18-25℃.
2. Usage process:
(1) If the PU adhesive has been stored for an extended period, stir it thoroughly before use to ensure uniformity.
(2) Before application, measure the temperature of both adhesive components. The temperature must be maintained within 18–25°C. If it falls below this range, allow the adhesive to remain in the glue room (maintained at 23°C during operation) until the temperature meets the standard.
(3) Ensure the drying oven temperature meets the required standard (≥120°C) before applying the adhesive.
(4) The adhesive dispensing rate must align with the backing line speed. Avoid excessive material buildup on the coating platform. If buildup occurs, reduce the dispensing rate or increase the line speed (adjust the oven temperature if necessary).
(5) Adjusting the Adhesive Application Rate:
Increase the foaming rate.
Adjust the pressure between the coating roller and the lawn backing
3. Importance of Adhesive Temperature
The adhesive temperature must be maintained within 18-25℃ . If the temperature is too low, the following issues may arise:
(1) Increased viscosity, leading to slower application and reduced production efficiency.
(2) Higher machine load, potentially damaging the equipment.
(3) Incomplete foaming, resulting in excessive adhesive usage and difficulty in cost control.
